Eid Al-Adha messages from political leaders

Eid messages from the Prime Minister, Leader of Labour Party, Leader of the Liberal Democrats, the First Minister of Wales and the Mayor of London, exclusively to The Muslim News

Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP, Prime Minister of the UK

Eid Mubarak to Muslims in the UK and around the world.

As you come together to celebrate, Eid al-Adha reminds us of the importance of family, friends and community – as well as the vital role of faith in going above and beyond to make the world a better place for those around us.

I want to pay tribute to the incredible contribution the Muslim community makes to the UK, and wish you and your loved ones health and happiness.

Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer MP, Leader, Labour Party

On behalf of the entire Labour Party, I would like to send my warm wishes to Muslims in Britain and around the world who are celebrating Eid al-Adha and my congratulations to those who could take part in Hajj this year. At this special time, many of you will be gathering with family and friends to share food and gifts to mark the occasion.
Amid this celebration, I know that many Muslims will be engaged in charity and extending a hand to those less fortunate.
It is that sense of charity and generosity shown daily by Muslim communities that has helped shape our country, and developed Britain into the inclusive multi-faith society we live in today. At the Labour Party, we thank you for all that you do to bring hope, kindness, and optimism to communities throughout Britain.
I would like to take this time to wish all Muslims a happy and peaceful Eid al-Adha.
Eid Mubarak!

Rt Hon Sir Ed Davey MP, Leader, Liberal Democrats

I want to send my best wishes to Muslims in the UK and around the world celebrating Eid al-Adha.
This holy celebration is an important time to come together with loved ones.
But it is also about sacrifice and giving to those less fortunate. I have always been awed by the generosity of the British Muslim community, from welcoming refugees to promoting environmental sustainability.
I am so grateful that we see the principles of Eid al-Adha—sacrifice, selflessness, and caring for others—personified throughout the year.
So to everyone celebrating, I wish you joy and peace.
Eid Mubarak!

Rt Hon Mark Drakeford AM, First Minister of Wales

To all Muslim communities across Wales and the wider world, Eid Mubarak.
Eid Al-Adha is a time for families and communities to come together, give food and presents, and celebrate as one.
It’s also an important time to remember that charity and supporting those less fortunate than us are important pillars of the Islamic faith.
Enjoy the feasts, enjoy the celebrations, and thank you to all those across our rich and diverse communities that make such a huge contribution to Welsh society.
To all those celebrating, I wish you all a happy and blessed Eid Al-Adha!”

Rt Hon Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London

I want to wish a very happy Eid al-Adha to readers of The Muslim News, Londoners, and Muslims around the world. This is a truly blessed day, when we come together with family, friends, and loved ones to mark the end of the annual pilgrimage of Hajj with great celebration.
It’s also a time to remember the story of sacrifice and be there to provide help for those in need of support.
With the spiralling cost of living crisis, many Londoners are struggling to get by, and I want to pay tribute to all those who are helping others during this challenging time.
I am inspired by the way the community helps and cares for one another and opens its doors to help migrant communities in need.
We are at our best when we are open and outward-looking. I know we will continue to show compassion and stand for what is right because our city is open and welcoming to all.
Wherever you are and however you are celebrating today, from my family to yours,
Eid Mubarak!
