JERUSALEM (AA): A Palestinian man was shot dead by Israeli forces Tuesday for allegedly attempting to stab an Israeli soldier in the West Bank, the Israeli police said.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said a Palestinian wielding a knife had approached security guards at the Qalandia checkpoint near Jerusalem.
“The Israeli forces at the scene shot the assailant, resulting in his death,” he said in a statement.
No injuries were reported among Israeli soldiers.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said the slain Palestinian man has been identified as Jihad Mohammad Khalil, 40, from Beit Wazan village, west of Nablus, in the northern part of the West Bank.
Eyewitnesses said the soldiers shot and seriously wounded the Palestinian, after alleging that he tried to stab them, and he bled to death after the soldiers prevented Palestinian medics from approaching him.
More than 245 Palestinians have been killed since an uptick in Israeli-Palestinian violence began in October 2015, according to Palestinian figures.
Israeli authorities say at least 42 Israelis have been killed over the same period.
