Gaza: 210 Palestinians killed last 24 hours by Israeli bombing

Gaza, (Wafa, AA, Al Jazeera):  210 Palestinians have been killed by indiscriminate Israeli bombing in Gaza Strip in the last 24 hours according to Gaza Health Ministry, increasing the number of Palestinians killed to 25,700, including 10,400 children, 7,100 women and 63,740 injured. 7,000 Palestinians are still missing.

The Israeli army carried out an airstrike Wednesday on the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip which killed four children.

The children’s bodies were found in the debris of houses, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

It added that the Israeli military continued its attacks from the air and ground on the Khan Younis region in southern Gaza, targeting the surroundings of Nasir Hospital with artillery shells.

The World Health Organization’s director-general denounced Israel’s bombardment of the city of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip on Wednesday.

“The ongoing heavy bombardment, evacuation orders and killing of civilians in Khan Younis, Gaza is just horrendous,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on X.

“WHO team joined an UNRWA mission to help those who were injured in today’s blast at the training centre where civilians were sheltering,” he noted and extended his condolences to the victims’ families.

Earlier, the head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in Gaza, Thomas White, wrote on X that an attack on the Khan Younis Training Centre took place Wednesday, during which two tank rounds hit a building that shelters 800 people.

Nine people were killed and 75 injured in the attack, according to White.

“Two tank rounds hit a building that shelters 800 people,” Thomas White, Director of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Gaza, said on X.

According to an Anadolu reporter, a fire erupted at the center as a result of the Israeli shelling.

Israel has denied it was responsible for the attack.

UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths said heavy bombardment of Khan Younis continues.

“Ordering trapped people to evacuate and bombing them before they can even do so is callous,” Griffiths said on X.

The Israeli offensive has left 85% of Gaza’s population internally displaced amid acute shortages of food, clean water and medicine, while 60% of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the UN.

Gaza’s Health Ministry accused the Israeli army Wednesday of shelling two medical facilities in the southern city of Khan Younis.

“Israeli forces are extensively shelling the vicinity of Nasser Medical Complex and al-Amal Hospital” in Khan Younis, ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra told Anadolu.

He said Israeli forces blocked roads to the two facilities and prevented ambulance dispatches there.

The spokesman warned that patients and medical staff at the two facilities “are at severe risk.”

Palestinian health authorities have repeatedly accused the Israeli army of targeting hospitals and ambulances during its deadly offensive on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7.

Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) reports Israeli forces have imposed a “complete curfew” around al-Amal Hospital as Israel continues its assault on Khan Younis.

Israeli shelling of the al-Satar al-Gharbi area of Khan Younis has led to the deaths of at least three people including two children.

Israeli forces are inside Al-Khair Hospital, between Khan Younis and Rafah, according to the UN humanitarian agency’s (OCHA) latest update, while three hospitals and an ambulance headquarters are under siege in Khan Younis.

The main medical facilities surrounded by heavy fighting in Khan Younis are:

Nasser Hospital
Al-Amal Hospital
Al-Aqsa Hospital

According to israeli authorities, 1,139 Israelis were killed in southern Israel by Hamas on October 7. Israel says 136 Israelis and foreign indiciduals are still held captive by Hamas in Gaza.
