CAIRO (AA): Thousands of Egyptian doctors attended an emergency Doctors’ Syndicate meeting in Cairo on Friday to discuss police brutality against medical personnel.
More than 4,000 doctors, who arrived from across the country, were joined by members of other syndicates, including journalists, engineers and teachers.
Two doctors working at al-Matariya Hospital had accused nine police officers of assaulting them on Jan. 28, but the Egyptian prosecution cleared the suspects just hours later.
A video reportedly showing plainclothes officers assaulting a doctor surfaced online following the incident.
The doctors demanded that the officers be held accountable for the alleged brutality.
Following Friday’s meeting, the syndicate threated to begin a national strike if its demands are not met.
