Sir, The term which confuses the minority disillusioned and brainwashed section of the Muslims and which is used by the opponents of Islam is Jihad. Jihad does not ask Muslims to fight and kill any “infidel”. Etymologically Jihad means ‘to struggle or strive.’
This struggle or strive can mean physically fighting to safeguard Islam when attacked, to protect human life, to support the oppressed and for self-defence as well as controlling one’s selfish and evil desire and unacceptable passion, behaviour and action.
Jihad also means endeavour and strive to achieve any noble goal. The Qur’an does not sanction fighting for personal gain, hatred or revenge.
