Islamophobia in Indian elections

28th Jun 2019

Sir, What I like about The Muslim News is that we get the news that is not reported elsewhere. So, for example, during the recent elections in India, the ruling party, the right-wing BJP, used Islamophobia to win the votes (‘BJP exploits Islamophobia to win elections’, The Muslim News, 31 May 2019)
Since the BJP came into power, they have created a xenophobic atmosphere in India. Hate crimes against Muslims have increased considerably. Many Muslims have been killed. Discrimination against them has increased too. What is unfortunate is that many in the Bollywood film industry, which always claims to be secular and non-sectarian, has supported Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, especially during the elections.
I dread to think what the next five years are going to be like for the minorities in India, especially for the Muslims. The BJP wants to continue to promote Hindutva.
The world doesn’t care about 180million Muslims in India. UK Government is very close to the Modi Government. It is rare to find our Government criticising Islamophobia in India.
