Birmingham Hall Green

5th Mar 2015
Birmingham Hall Green

Brief:

Current MP Roger Godsiff, Labour

With a dense Muslim population the Respect Party fancied their chances here. The then leader of Respect, Salma Yaqoob, put up a strong fight here in 2010, but only managed to come second. The Respect challenge could be weaker now as the factors that gave rise to Respect are not as prominent as they once were.

“A seat in urban Birmingham, England`s second city. Hall Green is towards the centre of Birmingham and consists of the wards of Hall Green, Moseley and Kings Heath, Sparkbrook and Springfield. While Hall Green itself is better off and owner-occupied, it is not typical of the seat which mostly much more of an inner-city seat, dominated by victorian terraces and council estates, labouring under economic hardship and unemployment. It has the highest asian and Muslim populations of the Birmingham seats, with a majority of the adult population coming from ethnic minority backgrounds.” (UK Polling Report)

Target seat:
