Midnight strikes,
Perforating the sweet silence
And thick darkness
With bursting showers
Of flashing, unfurling colour,
Ear-splitting, opulent
Splendour
Our world’s festive fervour
Almost drowns out,
Blots out
Scarlet stains and pain
Of distant cities ashen,
Razed
By twin whistling, neon colour,
Explosive rocket shower,
Setting skies aflame,
Limbs and lives ablaze
But since,
The screaming shells are far
And the scars
Are not ours,
We delight
In sizzling, swirling fire,
Revel deep into the night,
Unfazed
