Morocco’s national futsal team, which recently clinched its third consecutive African championship title, continues to hold onto its position as the 8th best team globally, boasting 1,536 points in the latest Futsal World Ranking update.

On a global scale, Morocco ranks above Ukraine (1.466 points) and France (1.444 points) in the top 10. These rankings trail behind the world’s leading team, Brazil, followed by Spain, Portugal, Russia, Argentina, Iran, and Kazakhstan, completing the top ten teams worldwide.

Following their recent continental triumph, Morocco’s ranking has the potential to further ascend on the global stage.

Morocco’s dominance remains prominent within the continent, leading the rankings ahead of Egypt (1.109 points), Angola (1.082), Libya (1.066), and Mozambique (891).

Having secured qualification for the FIFA Futsal World Cup, set to feature 24 teams in Uzbekistan from September 14 to October 6, Morocco will represent Africa alongside Angola, the finalists of the CAN, and Libya, the second runner-up in the recent edition.

Iran’s men’s Greco-Roman wrestling team secured the title of the 2024 Asian Wrestling Championships on April 16th. With a total of four gold medals, Iran comfortably clinched the team championship for the third consecutive year, amassing 200 points. Kyrgyzstan, boasting one champion, claimed second place with 144 points, narrowly edging out third-place Japan by just two points, despite Japan’s three gold medalists.

On Day 2 of the competition, Iran asserted its dominance by advancing four wrestlers into the finals. Former world champion and Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Mohammadhadi Saravi showcased his prowess by completely dominating the 97kg category, while young talent Saeid Esmaeili secured his first Asian title at 67kg.

Saravi’s stellar performance was highlighted in the 97kg final, where he overwhelmed Kazakhstan’s Yussuf Matsiyev with a resounding 9-0 victory, as reported by UWW.org. Employing a series of gut wrenches from par terre, Saravi executed a flawless takedown-roll combination, sealing the match in just under two minutes.

Saravi’s remarkable achievement extends his streak of success in international tournaments to 16 consecutive medals dating back to 2019. Among these victories are 11 golds and five bronzes, with recent triumphs including the Asian Games last October and the Yasar Dogu tournament in Turkey this March.
