Egypt has topped the final medal table in the 2019 African Games in Morocco on August after obtaining 273 medals, including 102 G medals. Coming in second is Nigeria with 127 medals, including 46 G medals, and South Africa which received 87 medals, 36 G. Algeria ranked fourth after receiving 125 medals, with 33 G followed by Morocco which received 109 medals, including 31 G. Tunisia came in the sixth rank with 97 medals, with 26 G. The African Games featured the participation of 52 African countries. The tournament is one of the qualifying tournaments for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Turkish women’s national volleyball team became the 2019 CEV Volleyball European Championship runners-up, losing an epic final to Serbia 2-3 on September 8. Top seed Serbia won the nail-biting final match against the tournament’s host nation Turkey in the capital Ankara with the sets of 21-25, 25-21, 25-21, 22-25 and 15-13.

Egypt’s world number 5 Nour El Tayeb and world number 2 Mohamed ElShorbagy lifted the first men and women’s titles of the new season after defeating compatriots and world number 1s Raneem El Welily and Ali Farag to claim the China Open.
El Tayeb stunned defending champion El Welily in a thrilling five-game battle to take the first Sware of the new PSA World Tour season as she displayed a formidable performance on the glass court atop the Peninsula Shanghai.
