POETS’ CORNER: Growing ambition

A new day has broken,

The same dismal offering;

Bloodshed, violence, lies and deceit

The poor no better,

The wealthy brimming with diamonds and dollars,

Their eyes bewitched by themselves.

Leaders crushing helpless victims in their way

for their ever-growing satiation.

As a blazing fire unleashes and expands

to show its ferocity and all consuming nature

So does their greed for the earth’s assets

Resembling in entirety the brutal days of Pharoah.

How long will this go on for?

The shrewd child asks with wondrous confusion.

Why does man kill man?

Snatch other people’s land?

Why can’t we all live in peace

And reap what we have to give?

Why are there kids like me

Suffering such indignity?

No doubt, kids are smarter than us

They possess real value of the things which matter;

Relationships, the natural world, offering relief to the distressed.

Ideals which were loved at first sight

Then abused for oneself.

Instead of preaching to them

Those elite businesses and leaders should incorporate

The glistening pearls of Life.

Love for others what you love for yourself

Show mercy to people and He will rain mercy on you.

These and other simple precepts

For an unassuming, noble life,

The type of life that kids aspire to

When they mature to be adults, like you and me

With the purest ambition of pleasing Him,

The Greatest Benefactor of Good,

The Greatest Avenger of Wrong.

To Him is our return.

In Him is all hope.
