Refugees and Xenophobia

30th Oct 2015

Sir, Muslim countries around Syria have taken millions of refugees. However, when a few hundred thousand land on the shore of Europe, there is a panic and xenophobia.
As is always the case, Islamophobia raises its head as you have documented. We have European political leaders making comments like ‘No Muslim refugees’ etc. Would they dare say ‘No Jewish or Black refugees’? Of course not. Anything goes these days as far as Muslims are concerned.
You also continue to report on examples of Islamophobia and Islamophobic attacks which is becoming dangerously high. In London in the last one year it has increased by 70%. I blame all this on the way media and politicians talk about Muslims – in negative way and equate them to terrorists and terrorism.
