Sir, In the last few years the media, Government and many politicians have been demonising the Muslim community, especially the Pakistani community, accusing them of being responsible for the majority of child sexual abuse. We saw images of mosques used as backdrops as reporters covered the abuses.
Academics have debunked these myths but the accusations continued.
Now that the Home Office has reluctantly published its report on the sexual grooming, it shows that child abusers are most commonly White. (‘Delayed Home Office report dispels myths about sexual grooming’, The Muslim News, December 25, 2020) Home Office had refused to release the report because of “public interest.”
It seems the real reason for its reluctance to publish the report is that it dispels the myths they have been propagating.
