Islamophobia in campuses due to Prevent

28th Aug 2020

Sir, The report on ‘Islam and Muslims in university campuses’, (The Muslim News, July 24) confirms that the anti-Muslim Prevent Extremism programme has created Islamophobia in the higher education institutions and as the report says caused significant harm by reinforcing common stereotypes of Islam and Muslims.
Prevent has also curbed freedoms of expression by preventing Muslims to freely express their views. If they do they are accused of extremism. The UK claims it respects freedom for all. However, it does not include freedom for Muslims.
