Human rights abuses against Muslims in India

25th Sep 2020

Sir, There are around 170 to 200 million Muslims in India, but they are being discriminated and persecuted in the Hindu majority country. India was created as a secularist state but since the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Government led by Narendra Modi has come into power, things have changed and it is now becoming a Hindu state. Your report of foundation-laying of a Hindu temple on Babri Mosque site which was demolished by Hindu mobs in 1992, highlights this very clearly (The Muslim News, August 28)
Muslims are forced to chant Hindu prayers otherwise they get beaten up, in some cases, they lose their lives. Perpetrators of violence against Muslims get away scot-free. Muslims are discriminated in schools and other areas of society; they find it difficult to get jobs and promotions. However, the world is looking the other way and doesn’t care, because the victims happen to be Muslims. If this was happening to the Jewish community, there would be an outcry and sanctions would be imposed on the country. Thank you for highlighting the persecution of Muslims as the world media is silent.
Yours,
