ANKARA (AA) – FIFA has given Turkey’s national football team the “Best Mover of the Year” award after it earned 329 points within the last 12 months, the global football governing body announced on its website Thursday.
FIFA said that Turkey received the award since the team managed to qualify for the UEFA Euro 2016 finals after beating Netherlands, Czech Republic and Iceland in the last group matches.
Turkey managed to be the best third-placed team in nine qualifying groups by collecting 18 points in Group A. Turkey completed 2015 in the 21st place in FIFA rankings with 933 points in total.
Meanwhile, Belgium bagged the “Team of the Year” award for this year. The Red Devils are in the first spot in the FIFA rankings for the first time.
Having collected 23 points in the Euro 2016 group stage, Belgium claimed a ticket for the finals by finishing Group B as leaders.
Belgium, who are on top of the list, have 1,494 points in the rankings table. They managed to pass many football heavyweights, Argentina, Spain and Germany.
Argentina have 1,455 points, Spain collected 1,370 and Germany have 1347 points.
The next FIFA rankings list will be revealed on Jan. 7.
