Eid message from Sadiq Khan MP

19th Jul 2015

Sadiq Khan, MP for Tooting:

As we are about to celebrate the end of what has been a challenging Ramadan, during long summer days, I hope you have had a productive and rewarding month; fasting, praying and giving to charity. I hope Ramadan has also been a time for coming together with your families, neighbours and our communities – to strengthen those ties and to demonstrate your support and love for one another.

As you will know I am campaigning to be the Labour’s candidate for the Mayor of London. I am proud of my faith, identity, my heritage and I am proud to be a Londoner and a resident of this great city. And I will be proud to be a London Mayor who is the Mayor for all Londoners, people of all different faith communities all nationalities and I will work hard for every single one of you.

Imagine the symbol and the message we can send to this country and to this world that Londoners choose a Mayor who was the son of a bus driver, who grew up on the council estate in Tooting the son of immigrants and is of a minority faith. Think about how we can raise the aspirations of the next generations and shatter the glass ceilings and show our young people that they can aspire to be whatever they want to be.

You do not need to be a Labour member to vote for me in this selection process. You can sign up to be a supporter by texting LABOUR to 78555.This text costs you £3 and gives you a vote on who the next London Mayor, Labour Leader and Deputy Leader will be.I do hope you would consider supporting me by speaking to your friends, families and congregations and encouraging them to sign up to be a registered supporter.

May you and your family have a happy and peaceful Eid, Eid Mubarak!
