KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait (AA & The Muslim News): 24 people were killed and 50 injured during a suicide bombing targeting a Shia Muslim mosque in the Kuwaiti capital during Friday prayers.
According to The Muslim News sources, the terrorist entered the mosques during the last raka’a of the prayers and blew himself up. The congregation is made up of Shia Muslims of Saudi Arabian origin.
Thabet al-Muhanna, governor of Kuwait City, said in a press release that: “A suicide bomber blew himself up inside the Imam Sadiq Mosque in the Sawaber area in the Kuwaiti capital during Friday prayers. We estimate five casualties in addition to a number of injured people who were taken to hospital.”
Medical sources told Anadolu Agency that that “the number of those injured has increased to 50.”
An eyewitness told an Anadolu Agency reporter that “the terrorist entered the mosque and exploded himself during the third section of the prayer,” adding: “This led to a large number of injured and some deaths.”
Daesh has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack, according to a statement posted on social media.
