ANKARA (AA): Many Arab countries and Islamic organizations denounced Friday’s suicide attack on a Shia Muslim mosque in Kuwait.

At least 27 people were killed and more than 227 injured after a suicide bomber detonated an explosive belt inside Al-Imam Al-Sadiq mosque during Friday prayers.

Daesh claimed responsibility for the attack, according to statements posted on social media on Friday.

UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan strongly condemned the deadly attack in a statement to UAE’s WAM news agency, describing it as a “terrorist criminal act.”

He also, warned of sectarian conflict and called on the international community to combat “terrorist and extremist” groups.

Meanwhile, the Qatari Foreign Ministry said in a statement that “that criminal act goes against all moral and humanitarian values as well as all monotheistic religions and Islam’s tolerant principles,” according to the Qatar News Agency.

Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack in a statement describing the incident as a “terrorist attack.”

The Council of Senior Scholars in Saudi Arabia also condemned the violence saying it aims to “destabilize national unity” in Kuwait.

Izzat Risheq, a Hamas official, said on social media that the attack is a “criminal act that contradicts all religions, values and customs.”

According KUNA, the popular cafes management declared cancelling “Girgiaan” celebrations for three days due to the distressing event.
Grigiaan is a traditional Kuwaiti celebration, observed during the fasting month of Ramadan. Festivities involve children in particular.
