Afghanistan: Twin bombings kills 19, wounds 50 in Kabul hospital

[Agencies, The Muslim News]: A military hospital in the Afghan capital Kabul was hit by twin bombings, killing at least 19 and wounding 50, Taliban security official said on Tuesday.

The hospital is located in the Wazir Akbar Khan region, a wealthy neighborhood with many foreign embassies.

The first bomb exploded at the entrance of the 400-bed Sardar Mohammad Dawood Khan Hospital, the largest military hospital in Kabul. This was followed by a second bombing.

After the explosions, a volley of gunfire was heard inside the hospital.

Bilal Karimi, Deputy Spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate, said the first explosion occurred in front of the Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan hospital. The second explosion also occurred in an area close to the hospital.

Saeed Khosti, spokesman of the Interior Ministry, said one of the explosions occurred at the entrance of the hospital, reports Afghanistan’s ToloNews,

State media agency Bakhtar News, citing witnesses, said Islamic State fighters had entered the hospital and clashed with security forces.

Islamic State had attacked the military hospital in 2017, killing more than 30 people.
