WASHINGTON (AA): The U.S. military carried out an airstrike last week against the al-Shabaab terrorist group in Somalia, killing at least 60 terrorists, the U.S. Africa Command announced Tuesday.
The airstrike was launched using two unmanned drones in coordination with the Somalian government Friday near the Harardere community in Mudug province in central Somalia.
“We currently assess this airstrike killed approximately 60 terrorists,” US Africa Command which oversees US military operations on the continent said in a statement.
“We also currently assess this airstrike did not injure or kill any civilians,” said the command in a statement.
There has been no independent confirmation to the attack.
It was the largest airstrike since a November 2017 attack that killed about 100 al-Shabaab terrorists.
