Egypt have won the Africa Handball Championship final on January 26. The Pharaohs beat Tunisia 27-23 to claim the 2020 Africa Men’s Handball Championship title. After a strong first half where Egypt came out on top 15-11, they extended their lead to overcome Tunisia in the second half by a four-goal margin. Egypt have now booked their place in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, set to begin in the summer. Qatar won the Asian men’s handball championship on January 27, after defeating South Korea 33-21, in the final. This is the fourth time in a row that Qatar have won the championship title after 2014, 2016 and 2018.
Qatar dominated the game from the beginning and cruise easily to the victory after outperforming the Korean for the second time in this tournament, as they beat them in the main round 34-27.
Qatar qualified along with South Korea, Japan who finished third and Bahrain the fourth, for the 2021 world championship in Egypt. The tournament witnessed the participation of Kuwait (the host), Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE, Qatar, Japan, South Korea, Iraq, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia, Iran and China.
