Letter — Imprisoned without trial is a shame to our country

Sir, As you argued in your editorial, Fatema Zainab Rajwani’s mistreatment by the police, and the CPS and should serve as a profound warning. It is an unsettling example of how extraordinary state powers risk becoming normalised — and of the human toll when they are deployed against political dissent. She was mistreated in the prison and was held for more than a year without trial. One would have thought such kinds of thing happens in a dictatorship. But I was really shocked to find out it is happening in the mother of democracy.
Shame on our country.
Yours
