Disturbing footage has emerged of a woman pinning a schoolgirl to a pavement in Sheffield before repeatedly and viciously punching her on the head.
The shocking video also shows one onlooker screaming “she’s a child!” as the middle-aged woman punches the hijab-wearing school girl, who was later identified as a 14-year-old.
Police have arrested a woman, 40, and a man, 44, on suspicion of racially aggravated assault and public order offence.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said the two adults were asked to leave a local pub the Nursery Tavern just 25 minutes earlier, following reports of racial abuse.
The incident started on the number 88 bus when it was parked at a bus stop on Eccleshall Road in Sheffield, South Yorkshire around 4.30 pm on December 4. The video shows the adults in a furious argument with a group of schoolgirls from Silverdale School. The children appear to confront the woman and stop her from leaving the bus. Two young girls argue with her, before she launches herself at them, pushing and slapping them.
The schoolgirls begin to hit back and the group wrestle until they fall out of the bus onto the street. The man screams at the school children to ‘Get the f**k away’ as he brawls with several kids.
After the woman escapes from a group of children’s punches, she appears to drag one girl away by her hair. As the clip comes to its end, the schoolchild is pinned to the floor with the middle-aged woman punching her repeatedly in the head. She eventually is pulled away, with one bystander saying, ‘No, you’re just hitting kids.’
A police investigation has been opened after the schoolgirl, 14, suffered minor injuries. A spokesperson from Silverdale School said they were aware of the incident and were supporting the students and their families in any way needed.
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police told The Muslim News, “Police were called at 4.05 pm on Wednesday, 4 December to the Nursery Tavern on Ecclesall Road, Sheffield, following reports of racial abuse.”
“A man and a woman were asked to leave the premises. A short time later, at 4.30 pm, a further report was received of an altercation on a bus travelling along Ecclesall Road towards the city centre between the same man and woman and other individuals on the bus.”
“All parties reportedly got off the bus on Ecclesall Road, where a 14-year-old girl was assaulted. The victim suffered minor injuries. A 40-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man, both from Sheffield, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of racially aggravated assault and public order offences.”
