Israel has unleashed a staggering onslaught on the Gaza Strip, dropping over 70,000 tonnes of bombs in six months (between October 7 and April 24), surpassing the combined bombings of Dresden, Hamburg, and London during World War II, according to arights monitor.
The relentless bombing campaign, coupled with bulldozing operations, has left devastation in its wake, obliterating structures up to a kilometre away in the east and north of the Strip to create what is termed a “buffer zone.”
Records show that the Germans dropped approximately 18,300 tonnes of bombs on London from 1940 to 1941. Allied forces unleashed 8,500 tonnes of bombs on Hamburg in the summer of 1943, followed by another 3,900 tonnes on Dresden in February 1945.Despite international calls for a ceasefire, Israel has persisted in its aggressive campaign against Gaza since the Hamas incursion on October 7. Tragically, the toll on Palestinian lives continues to rise, with over 36,500 reported deaths, predominantly
women and children, and nearly 83,000 others injured, according to local health authorities.
After nearly eight months of relentless conflict, vast stretches of Gaza lie in ruins, compounded by a dire humanitarian crisis exacerbated by a blockade on essential supplies including food, water, and medicine.
Amid mounting accusations of genocide, the International Court of Justice has ordered Tel Aviv to halt its operations in Rafah, where over a million Palestinians sought refuge before being engulfed by the conflict on May 6.
