Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer MP

Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer MP, Prime Minister

Eid Mubarak to Muslims across the UK and around the world.

As families and communities come together to mark the end of Ramadan, I want to pay tribute to the generosity, service and compassion shown throughout the holy month.

This year, as we celebrate, we also reflect. Recent incidents at home and abroad underscore the troubling times we are in. I know, and share, the deep concern of many about events in the Middle East. My thoughts are with all those affected, and with families here who are watching with worry. I want to see an end to this war as quickly as possible. While we’re taking the necessary action to defend ourselves and our allies, we will not be drawn into a wider war.

Here at home, I am committed to defeating the forces of division in our country. This means taking an active stand against Anti-Muslim Hostility. I am pleased that we have recently adopted a new definition and remain committed to take action to make our communities safer.

British Muslims are an integral part of our national story. For generations, Muslims have contributed to every part of our country, serving in our Armed Forces, sustaining our public services, building businesses, strengthening our civic life, and enriching our culture. I wish everyone celebrating a joyful and peaceful Eid-al-Fitr.

Rt Hon Sir Ed Davey MP

Rt Hon Sir Ed Davey MP, Leader, Liberal Democrats

As leader of the Liberal Democrats, I would like to wish all Muslim communities across the world the very best in their celebrations for Eid this year.

It is time to break bread, exchange gifts, and offer thanks for the blessings we share. Beyond those festivities, I know that for many Eid means much more. It provides an opportunity to celebrate the end of the month of fast, and honour a spiritual message, the importance of compassion, charity and reconciliation.

This Eid, I want to pay tribute to the Muslim community who practise these values every day. Across the country, mosques serve as vital community hubs and often go far beyond their function as a place to worship. Many operate food banks, provide hot meals, and offer shelter to the homeless, providing a vital lifeline for the most vulnerable in their communities.

At Eid this year, I am sure many will be thinking of those celebrating in areas facing violence and unrest around the world. We live in a time where it can feel easier to focus on what divides us, but I hope the shared sense of unity and compassion which defines Eid will offer us all a moment to reflect on our shared humanity.

To all those celebrating, Eid Mubarak.

Rt Hon John Swinney MSP

Rt Hon John Swinney MSP, First Minister of Scotland

As families gather for prayers, meals and celebration, I extend my warmest wishes to Muslims in Scotland and around the world for a peaceful and blessed Eid.

Scotland is proud to be a nation enriched by its diversity, and Eid is a time to recognise and celebrate the contributions of Muslim communities to Scotland’s culture and society. The Scottish Government will continue to work in close partnership with faith leaders to build strong, connected communities – helping create a fairer Scotland where people of all faiths and beliefs can flourish.

Rt Hon Sir Sadiq Khan

Rt Hon Sir Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London

I want to wish readers of The Muslim News, Londoners and Muslims across the world a very Happy Eid-al-Fitr – Eid Mubarak!

The holy month of Ramadan has been an important opportunity to reflect and strengthen the bonds we share with our communities. A time when London’s Muslim communities have once again shown a great generosity of spirit, with mosques and charities supporting Londoners and people in desperate need around the world.

As we show gratitude for our blessings, I particularly think of all those marking Eid in the midst of war and conflict. My prayers are with those in need and all those impacted by these horrific global conflicts. Together we pray for an end to their suffering and for peace and prosperity in the very near future.

Celebrating Ramadan in London never fails to remind me of the great strengths that characterise our amazing city. It has been a real privilege to attend a wide variety of iftars over the past few weeks and see those of every faith and background come together across the capital.

While some try to push division and hatred, I am proud that London remains a place where our diversity and differences are celebrated. Where coming from different backgrounds or beliefs does not stop us from recognising just how much we all have in common.

London will always stand for openness, and I am pleased that communities will come together again later this year when we celebrate Eid on the Square. The free, family-friendly event will see music, performances, and delicious food at in Trafalgar Square on Saturday 30 May.

Moments of celebration such as this serve as a reminder that London is, and always will be, a home for everyone.

I wish everyone celebrating abundant peace, love and blessings at this special time. From my family to yours, Eid Mubarak!

Rt Hon Stephen Flynn MP

Rt Hon Stephen Flynn MP, SNP Westminster Leader

Eid Mubarak to Muslims in Scotland and across the world. Eid al-Fitr is a joyous time, and I hope yours will be blessed, happy, and peaceful.

For centuries, Scotland has been a nation of religious and cultural diversity, and our Muslim community is an integral part of the rich tapestry of modern Scotland. During my time as a Member of Parliament, and as a local councillor before that, it has been a great pleasure to forge very close relationships with the Muslim community in my city of Aberdeen. The spirit of community, charity and friendship shines bright in Islam and Scotland is richer for its contribution to our nation.

My thoughts are also with the many Muslims for whom this Eid al-Fitr comes at a time of great hardship, including those facing genocide, war, poverty, and ill-health.

Despite the troubling times in which we live, I been moved by the kindness and love shown by Muslims the world over.

In that same manner of kindness, let me sincerely wish you and your family Eid Mubarak.
