KARACHI, (AA): At least five miners were killed and six others injured in a coal mine explosion in northwest Pakistan on Saturday, officials said.
At the time of explosion, 11 workers were present in the coalmine and six of them sustained minor injuries and were rescued. The injured were shifted to DHQ Hospital Hangu for medical treatment.
The incident occurred in the remote Doli area of Lower Orakzai Agency tribal region near the Afghani border.
An initial investigation suggested a gas leakage was responsible for the explosion, state-run Pakistan Television reported.
The official said the political administration had closed the mines after March 20 incident and the owner restarted mining without formal permission.
Pakistan has a history of mine accidents, largely due to a lack of safety standard.
