KARACHI, Pakistan (AA & Agencies) – Several people were killed and scores injured Wednesday in a gun-and -bomb attack on a university campus in northwest Pakistan. 21 people have been killed and more than 60 injured, some in critical condition.

Rescue workers said they have found at least seven bodies, including a university professor.

Gunmen opened fire on students and faculty members as they gathered at the school for a poetry recital to commemorate the death anniversary of the activist and leader whom the school is named after.

About 600 guests, arrived to participate in Mushaira (poetry recital), also stranded in the campus.

The incident took place at Bacha Khan University in Charsaddah district, approximately 40 kilometers from Peshawar.

The attack has evoked memories of another gun-and bomb assault in Peshawar that killed more than 140 people, mostly students, in December 2014.
