As Ramadan begins, I extend my warmest wishes to Muslims in the United Kingdom and around the world.
This holy month is a time of fasting, reflection and spiritual renewal. I believe Britain is stronger as a tolerant, decent and respectful country, and this Government is choosing the path of unity in the face of division. Bringing our communities together around the common good gives me great hope for the future of our nation.
As you focus on compassion, generosity, gratitude and unity, I want to thank you for your contribution to our national life. British Muslims are an intrinsic part of our society, and Ramadan is a powerful reflection of the open, inclusive country we continue to build together.
Across the UK, mosques and community centres will welcome people of all faiths and none to share iftar, strengthening the bonds that unite us.
I wish you and your loved ones peace, joy and a truly blessed Ramadan.
As the holy month of Ramadan begins, I want to send my warmest wishes to the Muslim communities here in Britain, and across the world.
Ramadan marks a period of reflection, and showcases values which are truly important: compassion, charity, and a selfless commitment to helping those in need.
As Ramadan begins this year, I am sure that areas suffering unrest around the world will be weighing heavily on people’s minds. Our thoughts will be with those who will be observing this month under the shadow of conflict or hardship.
I hope the discipline and peace which defines this period will offer us all a moment to reflect on our shared humanity.
So, as Muslim communities begin their dedication to this fast, let it remind us of the power of the Zakat, to help a struggling neighbour, and the Iftar, to share with a stranger.
To all those fasting and praying during this holy month, Ramadan Mubarak.
As the holiest month in the Muslim calendar begins, I send my very best wishes to all those observing Ramadan.
Muslim communities across Scotland play a vital role in our culture and civic life, and I greatly value the contribution they make. I want to reassure Muslim communities across our country that their Scottish Government – the government I lead – will continue to champion the rights of everyone in Scotland.
Ramadan is a time for reflection, community and generosity – values that resonate deeply across Wales. Muslims throughout our nation begin the sacred month of fasting and prayer in a spirit of togetherness and charity that defines this special time.
The commitment shown during Ramadan – to family, to faith and to helping those in need – reflects the very best of our communities. I wish you and your loved ones a peaceful and blessed month. Ramadan Mubarak.
Assalamu Alaikum
Happy Ramadan and Ramadan Mubarak to all readers of The Muslim News, Londoners and Muslims around the world.
This holy month is a sacred time to use prayer, fasting and reflection to deepen our faith, support those in need and reflect on the challenges and suffering faced by others.
Each year, we see the best of London’s Muslim communities as remarkable generosity is shown in mosques, foodbanks and community centres to care for the vulnerable and support charitable causes. This generosity is felt by recipients in UK and across the globe, from Gaza to Sudan.
I want to thank every Muslim Londoner for all you contribute during Ramadan and throughout the year.
In the weeks ahead, I look forward to joining Londoners in Iftars across the capital as people of all backgrounds stand side by side. At a time when anti Muslim hatred is at unacceptably high levels and when some voices have tried to present diversity as something to fear, using division and prejudice for their own gain, I’m proud that Londoners continue to show our true strength comes from standing together, connected by the values we share. London continues to be an antidote to the hatred, fearmongering and division.
I’d like to wish you and your loved ones peace and blessings throughout the month ahead.
Ramadan Kareem.
Ramadan Mubarak to Muslims in Scotland and across the world. As Ramadan begins, my thoughts will be with the Muslims I am fortunate enough to know as they embark on this month of fasting and prayer. Ramadan is a time for humility, introspection, charity and compassion toward those less fortunate than ourselves — values we should all try to exemplify in our lives.
For centuries, Scotland has been a nation of religious and cultural diversity, and our Muslim community is an integral part of the rich tapestry of modern Scotland. During my time as a Member of Parliament, and as a local councillor before that, it has been a great pleasure to forge very close relationships with the Muslim community in my city of Aberdeen. The spirit of community, charity and friendship shines bright in Islam and Scotland is richer for its contribution to our nation.
Many readers will be aware that since last Ramadan, the Aberdeen Mosque and Islamic Centre was the victim of Islamophobic vandalism. This was a deeply troubling time for our city, yet it was also greatly heartening to see the community rally to support the Mosque, Muslim and non-Muslim alike.
My thoughts this month are also with the many Muslims for whom this Ramadan comes at a time of great hardship; including those facing genocide, war, poverty, and ill-health.
Despite the troubling times in which we live, I been moved by the kindness and love shown by Muslims the world over.
In that same manner of kindness, let me sincerely wish you and your family Ramadan Mubarak.
