JERUSALEM (AA): A Palestinian youth was shot dead and many others injured by Israeli forces during an overnight raid in the occupied West Bank on Sunday.
A source at the Jenin Government Hospital told Anadolu Agency the youth had already died when he arrived at the hospital.
Medical sources in Jenin said the young man, Mohammad Mahmoud Abu Khalifa, 19, was shot with a live round in his back,
An Israeli military spokeswoman said they opened fire during an operation in the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank after they were attacked with firebombs.
However, other sources said several Israeli military vehicles invaded the refugee camp, after surrounded it, and clashed with local youths, who hurled stones and empty bottles.
The clashes lasted for several hours, while the army fired many live rounds, rubber-coated steel bullets, gas bombs and concussion grenades, killing Khalifa, and wounding at least three others, while many Palestinians suffered the severe effects of teargas inhalation
There were no injuries among Israeli troops and no arrests were made.
According to Palestinian figures, almost 255 Palestinians have been killed since the current uptick in Israeli-Palestinian violence began in late 2015.
Israel, for its part, says 42 Israelis have been killed in attacks by Palestinians over the same period.
