London, (The Muslim News): More than 240 Palestinians have been killed and over 600 injured by Israeli army fire in Gaza since a ceasefire agreement took effect on October 10, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, holding Israeli forces directly responsible for the deaths despite the truce.
The reported casualties, occurring since the truce began, underscore its fragility. The Israeli military has conducted raids, intensive artillery shelling, and demolitions, particularly in southern Gaza. On-the-ground reports confirm constant shelling in the region, alongside the destruction of farms and houses in eastern Gaza City.
The ceasefire itself, which established a “yellow line” to separate areas under Israeli military control from Palestinian movement zones, has been a focal point of violence. The Israeli military confirmed it killed two Palestinians in central Gaza on Wednesday, and another in the north on Tuesday, alleging they posed an “imminent threat” by crossing this boundary. The Palestinian Government Media Office has tallied 194 Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement, citing incursions and the blocking of vital medical supplies.
Amid the ongoing violence, a fragile humanitarian process continues. The UN reported that nearly 1 million people in Gaza have received food assistance since October. However, UN spokesperson Farhan Haq stressed that to fully deliver aid, the UN and its partners “need a durable ceasefire, more functional crossings, [and the] lifting of bureaucratic hurdles.”
The turmoil in Gaza is paralleled by a surge of violence in the occupied West Bank, where attacks by illegal Israeli settlers are targeting Palestinian communities and livelihoods. Recent incidents include settlers assaulting residents, setting fire to ancient olive groves, and vandalizing property.
The UN’s relief chief, Tom Fletcher, appealed “for the protection of Palestinians amid reports of ongoing attacks,” noting that “the failure to prevent or punish such attacks is inconsistent with international law.” According to Palestinian figures, Israeli attacks have killed more than 1,065 Palestinians in the West Bank since October 2023.
The broader conflict continues to exact a heavy toll. Since the war began in October 2023, Israel’s military campaign in Gaza has killed at least 68,858 people and wounded 170,664, according to Palestinian health authorities.
