Gaza: 124 Palestinians killed, 210 injured by Israeli bombardments in last 24 hours

Gaza City, (Wafa, Al Jazeera, OCHA): 124 Palestinians were killed and 210 others injured by indiscriminate bombing by Israeli forces in Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours according Gaza Ministry of Health. Between 7 October 2023 and 4 March 2024, at least 30,534 Palestinians have been killed, including 13,430 children and 8,900 women and 71,920 Palestinians have been injured by Israeli bombings in Gaza Strip, according to Ministry of Health. 8,500 Palestinians are missing.

They added that 364 health personnel were killed, and 269 others, including hospital directors, were detained in the period of 150 days of the bombings.

The sources indicated that the occupation destroyed 155 health institutions, put 32 hospitals and 53 health centers out of service, and targeted 126 ambulances.

Kamala Harris, the vice president of the United States, appeals for an “immediate ceasefire” in Gaza but stops short of calling for a permanent end to Israel’s assault.

There has been a clear increase in Israeli military attacks in the past 24 hours, particularly in the southern parts of Gaza.

At least 19 Palestinians were killed in the latest Israeli barrage of attacks on the Rafah district, which destroyed two houses, and the Nuseirat refugee camp in the center of the city.

Meanwhile, we have been hearing more loud explosions in the city of Khan Younis, where the Israeli military is still besieging a residential neighbourhood.

The situation is also very dire and critical in the central areas, specifically at the Nuseirat refugee camp, where an Israeli bombardment has wounded civilians.

Intense Israeli bombardment and ground operations as well as heavy fighting between Israeli forces and Palestinian armed groups continue to be reported across much of the Gaza Strip, particularly in Az Zaitoun area of Gaza city and in northwest Khan Younis, resulting in further civilian casualties, displacement, and destruction of houses and other civilian infrastructure. Palestinian armed groups continued to fire rockets into Israel.

Israel has bombed an improvised mass grave in the Block Two area of the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, leaving bodies scattered around the cemetery, according to Al Jazeera’s team on the ground.

“These are the parts of some of the martyrs that I personally placed in the shroud,” said one man, who buried a grandmother, aunts and an uncle in the targeted cemetery.

“The mass grave has no resistance and has no missile. Here there are only martyrs from this area and other different areas. They were targeted by an F16 aircraft,” he added.

WAFA correspondent said that the Israeli warplanes bombed four homes in Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, southeast of Gaza City, killing and injuring a number of Palestinians.

He added that the Israeli artillery fired shells at Palestinian homes in Al-Sabra and Al-Rimal Al-Janobi neighborhoods in Gaza City, causing casualties among civilians, including children and women.

The Israeli artillery also bombed two houses in town of Beit Lahia, north of the Gaza Strip, wounding a number of Palestinians with varying injuries.

They were taken to Kamal Adwan Hospital in Jabalia.

WAFA correspondent said that the Israeli air force bombed a house in Nuseirat camp, and another in the city of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, killing two civilians and injuring others. The casualties were transferred to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the city.

A number of Palestinians were injured when the Israeli war planes targeted a house in Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.

The warplanes also launched a raid on a house owned by Radwan family in Jabalia camp in the north, coinciding with the Israeli artillery firing several shells towards Palestinian homes in the camp, which left some Palestinians with several injuries.

In the south, 12 Palestinians, including children, were killed when the Israeli warplanes targeted two homes belonging to Madi family, north of Rafah, and Al-Gharib family, in the center of the city.

Meanwhile, the nutrition crisis in northern Gaza is rapidly deteriorating. As of 3 March, MoH in Gaza reported that 15 children had died of malnutrition and dehydration at Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, and expressed fear for the lives of six other infants who are suffering from acute malnutrition.

On 3 March, the UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Adele Khodr, stated that the “tragic and horrific” child deaths in Gaza are unfolding despite being “man-made, predictable and entirely preventable.”

According to Ms. Khodr, “the lives of thousands more babies and children depend on urgent action being taken now” to prevent famine, and “for this we need multiple reliable entry points that would allow us to bring aid in from all possible crossings, including to northern Gaza; and security assurances and unimpeded passage to distribute aid, at scale, across Gaza, with no denials, delays and access impediments.”

The number of children who have died as a result of malnutrition and inadequate medical care in Gaza has increased to 16.

They described the health situation in the Gaza Strip as extremely catastrophic as a result of the failure to bring in the necessary medical aid, pointing out that the occupation deliberately caused an unspeakable humanitarian and health disaster, which contributed to the spread of epidemics and infectious diseases.

The same sources pointed out that about one million cases of infectious diseases had been monitored, warning of the seriousness of the health situation in the Gaza Strip, in light of the lack of medical capabilities necessary to treat them.

According to Israeli government 1,139 Israelis were killed by Hamas on 7 October in southern Israel and 134 Israelis and foreign nationals are still detained by Hamas in Gaza.
