Gaza: 107 Palestinians killed, 145 injured by Israeli bombings last 24 hours

Gaza City, (Wafa, Al Jazeera, OCHA): Between the afternoon of 16 February and noon on 19 February, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH) in Gaza, 234 Palestinians were killed and 350 Palestinians were injured, including 107 killed and 145 injured in the last 24 hours by Israeli indiscriminate bombings.

Total Palestinians killed since October 7, 29,092 killed, including 12,000 children, in Gaza and 69,028 Palestinians were injured, according to MoH. 8,500 Palestinians are missing.

Intense Israeli bombardment from air, land and sea continues to be reported across much of the Gaza Strip, resulting in further civilian casualties, displacement, and destruction of civilian infrastructure.

As of February 2024, according to the Israel Prison Service (IPS), there are nearly 9,000 Palestinians in Israeli custody, including 3,484 administrative detainees (39 per cent) held without trial in the West Bank. These figures do not include detainees from the Gaza Strip held by the Israeli military

The situation in Al Amal Hospital in Khan Younis, south Gaza, continues to be critical, following a 28-day siege by the Israeli military.

On 19 February, Palestinian Red Cross Society (PRCS) reported a decrease in fuel reserves to generate electricity for high-risk patients and a near exhaustion of food supplies. On 18 February, PRCS reported that the third floor of the hospital sustained damage by artillery shelling and the destruction of the central maintenance room.

On 17 February, PRCS published images showing signs of what they assess to be torture of two doctors who had been detained from Al Amal hospital by Israeli forces on 9 February.

Twelve PRCS staff members continue to be detained by Israeli forces, according to PRCS. Notwithstanding the lack of blood units and medical personnel, the medical team successfully performed an urgent cesarian section for a pregnant woman at Al Amal hospital on 16 February

Footage verified by Al Jazeera shows hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza City rushing towards aid trucks before fleeing after Israeli forces open fire on them.

The Health Ministry also says at least eight people are dead at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis after the Israeli military cut electricity and oxygen supplies.

The State of Palestine addressed the International Court of Justice (ICJ) as hearings on Israel’s occupation of Palestine began on Monday.

The World Health Organization (WHO) says it has helped facilitate the evacuation of 14 patients from Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, which has been under siege and has come under fire from Israeli forces over the past several weeks.

“After two days of being denied entry into the Nasser Medical Complex in Gaza, yesterday WHO and partners were allowed to go inside to assess the patients,” WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a social media post.

“As a result, lifesaving medical referral of 14 critical patients was facilitated. Two patients needed continuous manual ventilation throughout their journey.”

Tedros also noted that 180 patients and 15 doctors and nurses remain inside Nasser.

“The hospital is still experiencing an acute shortage of food, basic medical supplies, and oxygen. There is no tap water and no electricity, except a backup generator maintaining some lifesaving machines,” he added.

Israel has been waging a war of genocide against hospitals and medical facilities in Gaza, Mai Alkaila, Minister of Health, said today after Nasser Medical Complex was put completely out of service due to the Israeli ongoing shelling.

In a press statement this evening, Alkaila discussed the latest developments regarding the health situation in the Gaza Strip.

Further, Alkaila said that as the Israeli brutal aggression on Gaza Strip enters its 136 day, “there is no safe place in Gaza.”

Alkaila pointed out that the deliberate targeting of hospitals and medical facilities in Gaza, putting the lives of hundreds of patients and displaced people who sought refuge inside the facilities, at an imminent risk of death.

Alkaila pointed out that it is impossible to obtain an accurate data regarding the numbers of missing people due to the ongoing Israeli shelling.

The latest statistics revealed that about 20,000 children were born since October 7, and that there are about 52,000 pregnant women.

Dozens of civilians today were killed and others wounded in Israeli bombardment of different parts in the Gaza Strip.

Medical sources reported that at least ten people sustained various injuries by Israeli live bullets while they were waiting for the aid convoy carrying food destined for hard-hit northern Gaza, in Sheikh Ajlin west of Gaza City.

Meanwhile, the Israeli warplanes bombed two houses coinciding with artillery shelling by Israeli occupation forces in the Tal Al-Hawa and Al-Sabra neighborhoods in the center of the city.

Israeli tanks and military vehicles further opened heavy gunfire towards civilian’ homes in the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood near the Kuwait Roundabout on Salah al-Din Road in Gaza City.

In the northern Gaza Strip, Israeli tanks also struck the vicinity of the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahia.

In the center of the Gaza Strip, Israeli artillery forces bombed several inhabited homes in Deir al-Balah, especially in the vicinity of Al-Aqsa Hospital, resulting in the killing of several people and causing multiple causalities.

Medical sources reported that hundreds of people are still missing under the rubble.

Moving to Khan Yunis, south of the city, the Israeli army continued to intensively target the Nasser Medical Complex, part curly after turning it into a military base.

According to Israeli government 1,139 Israelis were killed by Hamas on 7 October in southern Israel and 134 Israelis and foreign nationals are still detained by Hamas in Gaza.
