London, (The Muslim News): The final day of Eid al-Adha turned into a bloodbath in Gaza on Monday, as Israeli forces killed at least 57 Palestinians in a series of deadly strikes across the besieged enclave, according to local medical officials.
The heaviest casualties were reported near an aid distribution point in western Rafah, where eight civilians were fatally shot in the Al-Alam area. The centre was reportedly operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), an organisation allegedly backed by the United States and Israel.
The Gaza Government has accused GHF of facilitating Israeli military operations under the pretence of humanitarian relief. “GHF is effectively an extension of the Israeli occupation army,” a government spokesperson stated, accusing the group of luring civilians into lethal ambushes.
Elsewhere, three people were killed and nine others wounded in an Israeli airstrike on a group of civilians in the Nuseirat refugee camp, central Gaza. According to Al-Awda Hospital, a further 31 civilians were injured near another Israeli-American aid hub in the Netzarim Corridor.
In a separate overnight strike in Nuseirat, three more lives were lost, including two police officers on duty, Gaza’s Interior Ministry confirmed.
Khan Younis also bore the brunt of Israeli aggression. Medical sources said 12 people, including women and children, were killed in multiple strikes.
A young girl died of starvation and dehydration, the latest victim of Israel’s prolonged blockade which has cut off access to food, water, and medical supplies.
Drone and airstrikes continued across Gaza City, hitting Shejaiya, al-Tuffah, and Al-Zaitoun neighbourhoods, claiming at least 11 lives including four in a bustling marketplace and three paramedics attempting to retrieve the wounded.
In Jabalia, northern Gaza, eight people were killed when an Israeli warplane bombed a residential home. More fatalities were recorded in further attacks on civilian gatherings in Gaza City and Khan Younis.
The Palestinian Health Ministry reports that 54,927 people have been killed since Israel launched its offensive in October 2023, with over 126,000 injured. Rescue efforts remain stalled due to continued bombardment and the presence of unexploded ordnance.
International outrage is growing.
Last November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Meanwhile, over 130 Palestinians seeking humanitarian aid have reportedly been killed in the past fortnight alone. Gaza’s media office accused Israeli forces of targeting civilians at checkpoints leading to aid centres, with nearly 1,000 others wounded and several still missing.
In Britain, political pressure is mounting. More than 50 MPs have backed a bill introduced by former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn calling for an independent public inquiry into the UK’s involvement in Israel’s military actions.
The Gaza (Independent Public Inquiry) Bill passed its first reading in Parliament last week and is scheduled for a second reading on 4 July. It proposes an investigation into UK arms exports to Israel, intelligence cooperation, and the alleged use of RAF bases in Cyprus for surveillance missions over Gaza.
Signatories include MPs from Labour, the Green Party, Liberal Democrats, SNP, Plaid Cymru, and SDLP. Sinn Féin has also pledged support, although its MPs do not formally sign legislation due to their policy of abstentionism.
As calls for accountability grow louder in Westminster and across the international community, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deepen — with medical professionals now warning of mass starvation, particularly among children.
“The situation is beyond catastrophic,” said a doctor at Khan Younis Children’s Hospital. “We are watching children die not just from bombs, but from hunger.”
