London, (The Muslim News): At least 57 Palestinians were killed and dozens more injured in a series of Israeli strikes on homes and tents sheltering displaced families across the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, according to medical sources. The latest fatalities brought the total Palestinian death toll since October 2023 to 62,819, with a further 158,629 people injured, the enclave’s Health Ministry reported.
The ministry announced that 75 people were killed and 370 wounded in the past 24 hours alone. It also confirmed three more deaths from starvation and malnutrition, including two children, raising the total famine-related toll to 303, among them 117 children.
“Many victims remain trapped under rubble or on the streets,” the ministry warned, noting that rescue teams have been unable to reach them due to ongoing bombardment and a shortage of equipment.
Israel’s military campaign has intensified in recent weeks, pushing deeper into Gaza City and demolishing entire neighbourhoods as it seeks to seize control of the strip’s largest urban centre. The Palestinian Civil Defence estimates that more than 1,000 buildings in the Zeitoun and Sabra districts have been destroyed since the offensive on the city began on August 6.
Air and drone strikes continued throughout Tuesday. In Gaza City’s Sabra neighbourhood, seven Palestinians were killed when warplanes targeted a family home, while a drone strike on civilians in the same district killed three more. In the northern Al-Saftawi area, seven people died and several were injured in further bombardments. Strikes on the Gaza City centre left one man and a child dead, while another drone attack west of the city wounded several others.
Elsewhere in the enclave, the toll continued to mount, with casualties reported across several areas: in Bureij, a father and daughter died in one strike and another killed one person and trapped others beneath rubble; in Nuseirat, two civilians were killed when their tent was hit; and in Deir al-Balah, a mother and toddler died in a strike on a warehouse sheltering displaced families.
Palestinians seeking aid faced deadly attacks in central, southern, and northwestern Gaza, resulting in several deaths and injuries, including from gunfire near aid distribution points.
In Khan Younis, a single strike killed six family members, and demolition of homes continued in Jabalia al-Nazla and southern Gaza City as part of ongoing operations.
The humanitarian toll continues to deepen as famine grips the besieged enclave. The UN said more than 36,000 people have been displaced since Israel launched its assault on Gaza City earlier this month. “People continue to flee in fear for their lives, seeking safety wherever possible,” UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric told reporters, citing figures from the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. Between August 14 and 25, some 36,200 people were forced from their homes, with more than two-thirds heading to Deir al-Balah and a third to Khan Younis.
Violence also flared in the occupied West Bank, where illegal Israeli settlers stormed the small community of Khirbet Aqawis, east of Yatta, assaulting residents and foreign activists. Anti-settlement activist Osama Makhmara said, “The settlers beat people, leaving some with visible wounds and bruises.” He also shared photos showing at least four people with bloodstains on their clothes after the attack.
The Israeli military campaign has now killed nearly 63,000 Palestinians in Gaza, devastated its cities, and left its population facing starvation, mass displacement, and relentless bombardment.
