Gaza: 85 Palestinians killed, 130 injured by Israeli attacks in last 24 hours

Gaza City, (Al Jazeera, Wafa): 85 Palestinians have been killed, 130 others injured by indiscriminate Israeli bombing in Gaza Strip, according to the Ministry of Health. The death toll includes the 25 Palestinians who died from malnutrition and dehydration .At least 31,045 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza and 72,654 wo unded in Israeli attacks since October 7, Gaza’s Health Ministry says. About 72 percent of the victims are children and women, the ministry added.

Israeli forces intensified attacks across the Gaza Strip, killing at least 15 people, including women and children, in the Nuseirat refugee camp and al-Mawasi area in southern Gaza.

Local sources reported that Israeli warplanes targeted multiple civilian homes in the refugee camp, leading to the killing of several individuals and the injury of others.

In northern Gaza, an infant and a young woman died of malnutrition, taking the number of known starvation deaths to 25.

Philippe Lazzarini, who heads the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, says Ramadan is here as “displacement continues, and fear and anxiety prevail amid threats of a military operation on Rafah”, in Gaza’s southernmost point.

“This month should bring a ceasefire for those who have suffered the most. They need respite and peace of mind. It’s long over due,” he says.

Asem al-Nabeh, a member of the Gaza Municipality’s emergency committee, told Al Jazeera that Israel has destroyed one million square metres of roads in Gaza City.

“Municipalities need machinery, heavy equipment and fuel,” he said, adding that the city has accumulated 70,000 tonnes of waste.

Nabih also said that while food aid that has arrived is important, it does not meet the needs of the Palestinians. Groundwater reserves in Gaza are also in danger, he added.

“The per capita share of water in the Gaza municipality is now two litres per day,” he said.

Israeli attacks since October 7 have destroyed more than 1,000 mosques in Gaza.

In Rafah, al-Huda Mosque lies in ruins after it was targeted last month. It was built in 1952 and was one of the largest mosques in the area. The mosque once featured a library and praying area big enough to accommodate more than 1,500 people. However, now prayers are held in a reduced space.

As Palestinian Muslims prepare for the holy month of Ramadan, they have decided to continue to congregate as usual.

An Israeli air strike hit a house in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the Gaza Strip where 21 displaced Palestinians were sheltering.

At least 13 women and children – including a five-month-old baby girl called Zeina and a six-year-old boy called Omar – were killed.

Scores of Palestinian civilians were brutally killed by Israeli airstrikes or artillery shelling over the last hours across the Gaza Strip, as the ongoing Israeli genocidal onslaught on the enclave enters its 156th day in a row, according to local and medical reports.

In Khan Yunis province, southern Gaza, at least 15 Palestinians were killed and dozens were injured in an Israeli bombardment targeting the tents of displaced families in Al-Mawasi region, which has ironically been designated as a ‘safe zone’ for Palestinians by the Israeli occupation army.

The attack on Al-Mawasi region coincided with Israeli warplanes unleashing intense fire belts over the adjacent city of Khan Yunis.

Meantime, a Palestinian was killed and three others were injured when Israeli occupation forces shelled a vehicle on Salah al-Din Road in the city of Rafah, located in the farthest south of the Gaza Strip.

In the central region of the Strip, medical sources reported that the bodies of more than 37 Palestinians in addition to 118 wounded individuals were transported to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the city of Deir al-Balah.

The casualties brought to the hospital were a result of Israeli shelling on various areas of the central Gaza Strip during the past hours, accompanied by artillery shelling on civilian homes.

In Gaza City, in the northern half of the enclave, WAFA correspondent reported that five civilians were killed, and dozens were injured after the Israeli military targeted civilians waiting for aid near the Kuwait roundabout in the Zaytoun neighborhood, southwest of Gaza City. The casualties and the injured were transported to Al Shifa Medical Complex.

In the North Gaza province, Israeli warplanes carried out an airstrike targeting the Abu Nasser family’s house in the Beit Lahia project, resulting in the killing and injuries of several civilians.

In northern Gaza, an Israeli strike targeted a house near the Abu Al-Qumsan Mosque in the Beit Lahia Project area, resulting in multiple casualties, including both fatalities and injuries.

In Khan Yunis province, southern Gaza, the eastern regions of the Al-Fakhari town were subjected to Israeli artillery shelling, causing further fatalities and injuries among the local Palestinians.

Intense Israeli carpet bombings also targeted the southern areas of Khan Younis city and other areas, towns, and villages, including Al-Matahen, Al-Zawayda, and Juhor al-Dik, in the central Gaza Strip.

In northern Gaza, WAFA correspondents reported that several Palestinians were killed when Israeli occupation forces opened fire on civilians waiting for aid at the Kuwait roundabout in northern Gaza.

This was simultaneous with artillery shelling affecting the eastern and southern regions of Gaza City, east of Deir al-Balah, and the northern areas of the Al-Nuseirat camp in the central Strip.

The Israeli attack on Saturday night also saw the killing of five Palestinians in an Israeli airstrike on Deir al-Balah, located in the center of the Gaza Strip.

According to Israeli government 1,139 Israelis were killed by Hamas on 7 October in southern Israel and 134 Israelis and foreign nationals are still detained by Hamas in Gaza.
