MARDIN/SIRNAK, (AA): Protesters clashed with riot police late Saturday night in the eastern provinces of Mardin and Sirnak over airstrikes against illegal Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) in Iraq.
Masked protesters rallied in Nusaybin district of Mardin to demonstrate protesting Turkey’s air campaign against PKK training camps in northern Iraq.
The pro-PKK protesters hurled stones, fireworks and petrol bombs at police, who retaliated using tear gas and water cannons to disperse the group.
Two automatic teller machines (ATM) were set fire with petrol bombs; an armored police vehicle came under fire but no casualties were reported.
Also, Cizre district of the Sirnak province saw protesters block traffic and throw petrol bombs, fireworks and stones at police.
Police dispersed the pro-PKK protesters with tear gas and water cannons.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by the EU, the U.S. and Turkey.
On Friday night and in the early hours of Saturday, Turkish air forces bombed for the first time in last two-and-a-half years PKK camps in northern Iraq.
Turkey also launched attacks against Daesh.
In a separate incident, two municipal buses in the western city of Izmir were intercepted by protesters, who set fire to one of the buses and shattered the windows of another.
The group set fire to the bus after evacuating the driver and passengers.
