Iraq: Car bombing kills 10 near hospital in Baghdad

By Ibrahim Salih

BAGHDAD (AA): At least ten people were killed early Tuesday in a car bombing claimed by Daesh terrorist group in the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

A car packed with explosives blew up near a hospital in the Shia Muslim predominantly al-Karada district in central Baghdad, police officer Hassan al-Noufal told Anadolu Agency.

Ten dead bodies were admitted to hospitals in Baghdad, an Iraqi health source said anonymously because he was unauthorized to speak to media.

“At least 28 people were injured in the attack,” the source said.

The Baghdad operation command earlier said seven people had been killed and 14 others injured in the bombing.

Tuesday’s attack was swiftly claimed by the Daesh terrorist group.

In a statement cited by the group’s Amaq news outlet, Daesh said a bomber targeted a group of Shia Muslims in the district.

Iraq has been roiled by a devastating security vacuum since Daesh seized vast swathes of territory in northern and western Iraq in 2014.

In July, more than 300 people were killed and scores injured in a massive suicide bombing claimed by Daesh in al-Karada.
