By Islamuddin Sajid

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, (AA): At least seven people were killed and six others wounded in an explosion in Mazar-i Sharif city in northern Afghanistan on Tuesday.

According to local officials, the roadside explosion took place near the Seyed Abad intersection in the third district of Mazar-i-Sharif and targeted a bus carrying oil company workers from the Mekan port, Khamma News Agency reported.

A roadside bomb placed in a cart detonated as the bus arrived near a city square, said police spokesman Mohammed Asif Wazeri.

The wounded people, some in critical condition, were shifted to a local hospital, the agency quoted Asif Waziri, the spokesman for the Balkh Province Police Command, as saying.

He feared the number of casualties may increase.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

On Wednesday, at least 15 people were killed and 27 others injured in a bomb explosion inside a religious seminary in the Samangan province of northern Afghanistan.

Later on Friday, Pakistan’s chargé d’affaires to Afghanistan Ubaid Ur Rehman Nizamani survived an attack on the country’s embassy in Kabul.

While on the same day, former Afghan Prime Minister and chief of Hezb-e-Islami party Gulbuddin Hekmatyar also escaped a suicide bombing in the capital Accept during Friday prayers.
