Belgian police arrest 6 suspects over Brussels bombings

BRUSSELS (AA) – Belgian police arrested six people late Thursday as part of an investigation into Tuesday’s Brussels bombings, which killed 31 people and injured 260 others.

The arrests came Thursday evening during police raids in the Brussels neighborhoods of Schaerbeek and Jette — located in the northern and western part of the city, respectively — according to public broadcaster RTBF which cites the public prosecutor.

Another police search was made in the district of Forest and ended early Friday, according to the Belgian broadcaster.

The identity of those arrested has yet to be known and more information is expected on Friday, RTBF reported.

Tuesday’s bombings at the Brussels airport Zaventem and Maelbeek metro station came four days after the arrest of Paris attacks suspect Salah Abdeslam and a week after a police shootout in the Brussels district of Forest where a suspected Daesh member was shot dead.

Daesh has claimed responsibility for the attack through a news agency linked to the group.
