London, (The Muslim News): The violence escalated further on Monday as Israel intensified its aerial and artillery bombardment across Gaza, focusing on southern and eastern Gaza City. Between 92 and 97 Palestinians were reported killed in a single day, many of them in areas where displaced people had gathered. Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 56,531 people and wounded 133,642, since October 7, 2023, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry

Earlier on Sunday, at least 50 displaced Palestinians, including two young children, were killed as Israeli forces carried out a series of airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, targeting areas where civilians had sought shelter. Medical sources confirmed that Israeli strikes hit tents housing displaced families in Khan Younis, residential homes in Gaza City, and aid distribution points in Rafah and elsewhere.

Five people were killed when Israel bombed a tent shelter in al-Mawasi, Khan Younis. Another five civilians lost their lives in a separate Israeli airstrike in the same area. Two children, aged two and three, were among those killed when Israel targeted a residential building in the Zeitoun neighbourhood of Gaza City.

Israeli fighter jets also struck two UN-run schools—Al-Hurriya in Zeitoun and Halawa in Jabalia al-Balad — both of which were being used as shelters by displaced civilians. Seven people were killed in those attacks, while further Israeli strikes on the Al-Tuffah neighbourhood killed five more and left several others injured.

In central Gaza City, an Israeli drone opened fire on civilians in Al-Zawiya market, killing two and injuring at least 15.

Israeli forces also opened fire on Palestinians queuing for humanitarian aid near a US-operated distribution point in al-Shakoush, northwest of Rafah, killing five and injuring over 25.

Gaza’s Health Ministry reports that Israeli fire near aid distribution areas has so far killed at least 549 Palestinians and wounded more than 4,066.

One person was killed in a separate Israeli drone strike in Shejaiya, while four more died when Israeli aircraft hit a family home in al-Sabra. An Israeli drone also shelled a tent for displaced people near Al-Samer Junction, wounding several.

Israeli bombardment continued across the north, with one civilian killed in Jabalia and seven more bodies—including women and children—recovered from the rubble after Israel struck Jabalia al-Nazla. Six more were killed, and 20 wounded, in an Israeli attack on a house and group of civilians in the same town.

Israeli forces also struck four more schools after issuing evacuation warnings—three in Zeitoun and one in al-Tuffah—each sheltering displaced families. In one of the most lethal incidents, Israeli warplanes bombed a beachside café in Gaza City where civilians had taken refuge, killing at least 34 people, including women and children. Witnesses described scenes of devastation, with bodies scattered along the sand.

In another attack, Israeli drones killed five people at the Al-Shati refugee camp. Elsewhere, Israeli forces opened fire on civilians seeking aid along Salah al-Din Street, killing one and injuring 23. One more Palestinian was killed when Israeli shelling targeted tents in al-Mawasi, Khan Younis.

In Gaza City’s Sabra neighbourhood, Israeli airstrikes on a warehouse used by charities to distribute humanitarian aid killed at least 10 people and injured many more. Israeli helicopters dropped bombs on Al-Sikka Street in Zeitoun, killing a woman and injuring others. Drone strikes in the same area killed and wounded more civilians near a petrol station.

Israeli forces continued to hit targets in northern Gaza, with four people killed in Jabalia and three—including a woman—killed in Khan Younis. An Israeli airstrike on a group seeking aid in the southwest of Khan Younis killed 13 and wounded 50.

The death toll continued to mount as Israeli forces hit Rafah, the Shejaiya neighbourhood, and Al-Wahda Street in Gaza City. At least 10 more people were killed and dozens injured in drone strikes targeting aid seekers and civilians using donkey carts.

Israeli attacks have also taken a devastating toll on the media and sports communities. Photojournalist Ismail Abu Hatab was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City, bringing the total number of journalists killed since October 2023 to 228, according to Gaza’s Government Media Office. It condemned what it described as Israel’s “systematic assassination” of journalists and called for urgent international intervention.

The Palestinian Football Association said 785 athletes and sports officials have been killed by Israeli attacks in Gaza and the West Bank, with 437 of them football players. More than 288 sports facilities have also been completely or partially destroyed in Israeli strikes.

Fresh reports on Monday indicated that Israeli forces killed at least 85 more Palestinians, including in an attack on Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah.
