LAGOS, (AA) – Five female bombers simultaneously attacked a security post manned by a government-backed vigilante group in northeastern Nigeria on Wednesday.
One member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and the five bombers died at Mafa, some 40 kilometers [25 miles] east of Maiduguri, Borno State’s provincial capital.
Abdulkadir Ibrahim, spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the northeast, said five other members of the CJTF at the post were hurt in the blasts.
Nigeria has witnessed an upsurge of Boko Haram attacks in recent times, particularly in remote communities in the volatile northeast region.
The military insists it will meet a December deadline given by the nation’s president to end the insurgency in the area.
