CAIRO (AA): Egyptian police killed dozens of suspected terrorists in security raids, one day after the killing of three tourists and a guide in a roadside bomb blast in Cairo, according to the official MENA News Agency.
Three Vietnamese tourists and an Egyptian guide were killed Friday evening in a roadside bomb blast that targeted a tourist bus near the world-famous Pyramids in Giza province, west of Cairo.
The attack occurred on El-Maryoutiya Street in Giza’s Haram district, where an improvised explosive device was hidden near a wall
At least 12 people, ten of them from Vietnam and Egyptian bus driver, were injured by the improvised device, which was hidden near a wall on Marioutiya street in Cairo, the interior ministry said.
14 Vietnamese tourists had been on the bus, the ministry said.
Vietnam’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Pham Binh Minh said he was “deeply saddened” by Friday’s attack.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said the bus had “deviated” from a route secured by security services.
Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez tweeted: “The bombing of the tourist bus in El-Maryoutiya, a despicable, cowardly terrorist act which targets what cannot be targeted: The determination of Egypt and the Egyptians.”
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Last month, gunmen opened fire on two buses some 85 miles south of Cairo, killing seven Coptic pilgrims.
On Saturday, security forces killed at least 40 suspected terrorists in raids in Giza and northern Sinai, MENA reported, without giving any further details.
Egyptian authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the raids.
