CAIRO (AA): A bomb has exploded outside the Italian consulate in the Egyptian capital of Cairo on Saturday, killing at least one person.
The explosion, which took place early morning local time – targeted an Italian culture center near the consulate, Husam Abdulgafur, a health ministry spokesman told Anadolu Agency.
Seven people were also wounded in the attack, which damaged the consulate, culture center and nearby houses.
No group has yet claimed responsibility.
Last month, Egypt’s prosecutor-general Hisham Barakat was killed in an attack that targeted his convoy in Cairo.
A shadowy group calling itself the Popular Resistance in Giza claimed responsibility for that attack.
Egypt has been dogged by turmoil since the military unseated democratically elected President Mohamed Morsi in mid-2013 following mass protests against his administration.
