ABIDJAN, (AA): Ten people have been killed so far by floods across the Ivory Coast, officials said Thursday.
The floods were triggered by heavy rainfall that has been ongoing for the past month in the West African country.
The Ivory Coast National Meteorology Directorate released a statement Thursday saying that many houses had collapsed and that the country’s highways were damaged due to strong rainfall.
The statement added that it was mostly the poorer areas that were badly affected, and that residents were transferred to safe areas.
Last June, the Ivory Coast suffered strong floods and landslides that killed at least 40 people.
