Poets’ corner: Disconnected

Poets’ corner: Disconnected

Behind the wheel
Revving, accelerating, steering steel
Doors barred, windows sealed
Nature, rhythm, beauty – remote, concealed
Automated reflexes, door-to-door routine
Merging as one, self and machine

Fully-equipped, high-tech home
Gadget-cluttered, gadget-controlled
Over-stocked with amenities, comforts,
Diversions, sensory overload
Minimising any inclination to venture outdoors

So I slouch, sedentary
Eyes glazed, glued
To smart-phone, tablet, kindle, tube
Barely breathing, vegetating, hibernating
Tapping, clicking, endlessly uploading, updating
Vacant heart, numbed soul
Uninspired, insipid, cold

Isolated from nature’s poetry,
Beauty, freedom, divinity
Desensitised, dehumanised
I am a lemming of modernity
