205 (53 female, 152 male) of 594 Muslim candidates were elected across 275 councils. 31 Muslim candidates contested seats in two affiliate councils eight of whom were elected. In total 138 Labour, 50 Tories, nine Liberal Democrats, three Green, three Independent and 2 other party Muslim candidates were elected on May 6.

Devolved parliament history makers
History was made in Scotland and Wales as both nations elected their first woman of colour and Muslim woman to serve as members of the Scottish (Holyrood) and Welsh parliaments (Senedd Cymru).
Kaukab Stewart won her race for the SNP in the Glasgow Kelvin safe seat while Welsh Tory Natasha Asghar became one of four MSs elected to represent the South Wales East.
Asghar is the daughter of Mohammad Asghar, who was a regional MS for South Wales East until his death last June.
London Mayrol & Assembly Elections
Sadiq Khan was re-elected Mayor of London as had been widely expected, providing some joy to the opposition.
Labour Party which has suffered of disappointing results in the local elections. Khan, who became the first Muslim to head a major Western capital after his victory in 2016, saw off his main Tory challenger, Shaun Bailey. Although his winning margin (55.2% to 44.8%) was smaller than his victory five years ago.
Lib-democrats Hina Bokhari and Labour’s Marina Ahmad and Sakina Sheikh share the feat of becoming London Assembly first Muslim women members.
