Palestine: Palestinian killed by Israeli forces near Qalqilya, West Bank

Palestine (AA, Imemc & Wafa):  A Palestinian was shot and killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank town of Azzoun, east of Qalqilya, the Ministry of Health reported Saturday.

The Ministry identified the dead young man as Ayed Azzam Mahmoud Salim, 20, and added that he suffered five gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen.

Mohammad Musleh, a resident of Azzoun told Palestine TV that the soldiers shot Ayed near a bypass road used by the illegal colonizers and added that the soldiers shot the young man just for walking near the road, especially since no protests were taking place in that area.

Palestinian medics moved him to Omar Al-Qassem Hospital in Azzoun town where his death was confirmed, before he was transferred to Darwish Nazzal governmental hospital.

Local sources said several army jeeps invaded the main entrance area of the town, and closed it, leading to protests.

They added that the soldiers fired live ammunition, tear gas canisters, and concussion grenades.

Meanwhile, Israeli settlers Saturday night attacked the Palestinian Bedouin village of Ein el-Hilweh in the northern Jordan Valley region, northeast of the occupied West Bank, according to local sources.

Mutaz Besharat, a Palestinian official in charge of the settlement file in the area, told WAFA news agency that a group of army-guarded Israeli settlers attacked the village in the late-night hours, destroying some of the local citizens’ properties, including solar cells and other facilities.

Israeli settlers also carried out a series of attacks against Palestinians across the occupied West Bank.

Israeli settlers on Friday vandalized Palestinian properties and closed the entrance to Ramallah city in the occupied West Bank.

Eyewitnesses told Anadolu that settlers living in the settlement of Bet El closed the entrance leading to Ramallah and Al-Bireh cities using rocks and garbage containers, and prevented Palestinian vehicles to pass through the entrance.

The eyewitnesses added that the Israeli forces were present at the scene to protect the settlers, and did not prevent settlers from blocking the entrance.

Early on Friday, settlers also attacked the village of Humsa Al-Fawqa, north of the Jordan Valley area, east of the West Bank, and set fire on Palestinian properties in the village.

Mutaz Besharat, a Palestinian official in charge of the settlement file in the area, told WAFA that a group of Israeli settlers, protected by Israeli forces, attacked the village in the late-night hours, destroying some of the local citizens’ properties, including solar cells and other facilities.

On Friday, an Italian tourist was killed and seven others injured in a shooting and ramming attack in the Israeli capital of Tel Aviv.

An attacker opened fire and killed one person while driving a vehicle along the coastal road in central Tel Aviv.

Israeli police said the vehicle hit pedestrians in the Tel Aviv promenade and “a police officer who was at a nearby gas station heard a noise and noticed a vehicle overturned, as well as several people lying on the floor.

“The police officer approached the car together with the Tel Aviv municipality inspectors and noticed that the driver was trying to reach for a weapon he had in his possession,” it wrote on Twitter.

The officer and inspectors “neutralized” the attacker, it added.

The sources said the slain is Alessandro Parini, a 35-year-old Italian citizen, and added that the incident occurred at about 21:35 Friday when the attacker drove on the bike lane of “Charles Clore Park,” hitting six pedestrians.

The police named the driver as Yousef Abu Jaber, 44, a married father of five daughters from Kafr Qassem.

Earlier, two Israeli settlers were killed and one was seriously injured in an armed attack on a vehicle in a Jewish illegal settlement near the Jordan Valley in the occupied West Bank. The two were sisters and the injured was their mother. They are from Efrat illegal Israeli settlement built on Palestinian lands near Bethlehem, in the West Bank.

At least 95 Palestinians, including 17 children and an elderly woman, and 12 Israelis were killed since January this year.
