JERUSLAEM (AA) – Two Israelis died after they were shot at a tram station in occupied East Jerusalem on Sunday, officials said.
At least six others were wounded, the Magen David Adom emergency service said. The Palestinian attacker was killed by police after opening fire on a crowd, local media, which identified the two dead Israelis as a woman in her 60s and a male police officer, reported.
Military spokesman Peter Lerner said the gunman fired on Israelis near a police headquarters. Police patrols were stepped up in East Jerusalem after the attack and parts of the Old City were closed.
The Palestinian has been identified as Misbah Abu Sbeih, 39, from Silwan town, in Jerusalem. The names of the Israelis who were killed in the attack have not yet been released.
