Palestine: 12 Palestinians killed, 45 injured in Gaza by Israeli airstrikes

By Yaser Albanna

GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA): At least two Palestinians were killed on Wednesday in an Israeli airstrike in central Gaza Strip. Wednesday’s casualties put death toll in Gaza Strip at 12 since Tuesday, while 45 civilians were injured. The Israeli army carried out at least 30 airstrikes and artillery attacks Tuesday on several areas of the Gaza Strip, according to the government’s media office in the Strip.

UK Government condemned the Palestinian missile attacks on Israel by did not say anything about the Israeli bombing of Gaza Strip.

UK Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are deeply concerned by the escalation of hostilities in Gaza. The UK condemns the firing of rockets at civilian populations. Any attacks targeted against civilians are unlawful and unjustifiable. We call on all sides to rapidly de-escalate the situation, and support the UN and Egyptian efforts to achieve that objective.”

The situation escalated in Gaza early Tuesday after an Israeli airstrike killed Bahaa Abu al-Atta, the commander of the Islamic Jihad resistance group. His wife Asmaa Abu al-Atta was also killed.

“The first martyr Khaled Farraj, 38, a leading member of Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad group,” the Palestinian Health Ministry said without identifying the second martyr.

The Israeli missiles also struck farmlands east of Deir al-Balah, and east of Juhr ed-Deek area, in central Gaza.

More missiles were fired into farmlands in Tal al-Hawa neighborhood, west of Gaza city, causing damage to nearby homes.

One Palestinian home was struck and leveled by an Israeli missile in Rafah, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

Israeli warplanes also launched airstrikes targeting Islamic Jihad member Akram al-Ajouri in Damascus, Syria.

Two people, including al-Ajouri’s son, were killed and 10 others injured, but the Islamic Jihad leader remained unhurt.

In retaliation for al-Atta killing, the Quds Brigades, the military wing of Islamic Jihad, launched dozens of rockets towards Israeli cities, to which Israel responded with airstrikes across the Gaza Strip.

The Arab League condemned the Israeli bombing on the Gaza Strip, Tuesday.

In a statement, the Arab League said: “This aggression comes in continuation of a series of crimes committed by the Israeli occupation.”

“This comes in the context of exposed Israeli attempts to let the Palestinian people pay the price of the predicaments and agendas of Israeli parties,” the statement said.

It continued, saying that “Israel wants to push the situation in the besieged Gaza Strip to further deterioration and to drag the region into violence and turmoil that will exceed the region, to threaten international peace and security.”
